Five score and one year ago our progressive Father Woodrow Wilson brought forth on this continent, a war on drugs, conceived in arrogance and dedicated to the proposition that brute force can make us wise and good.
Now we are engaged in a great debate, testing whether that policy, or any policy based on the brute force of the state, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war, Downtown Buffalo, which houses twenty government agencies which employ thousands of people spending tens of millions of dollars fighting the drug war.
We have come here to challenge all those who work for these agencies, no, not challenge, demand, that they search their conscience, and realize the evil nature of the work they do, and to cease and desist immediately! We have also come here to challenge the families, friends, neighbors and associates of the drug warriors to help them see the destructive nature of the work they do and to have the moral courage to do the right thing and end the brutal, violent and murderous drug war now! It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
The drug war is stupid, evil and barbaric. It is a modern version of the war on witches waged three hundred years ago by government officials against the purveyors of “magic potions,” (drugs). Like witch hunts, the war on drugs is a form of mass hysteria in which large numbers of normally decent people take leave of their senses. They start believing they can use violence against others who have done them no harm for the imaginary “crime” of possessing private property.
The drug war is the leading cause of hostile encounters between police and citizens, especially the poor and minorities. These days, everyone is talking about police abuse but no one is doing anything about it. That needs to change and fast.

Yet, illegal drugs are everywhere and more plentiful than ever! If you want to keep your kids away from drugs, my advice is to keep them away from two government institutions where drugs are widely available, prison and the local public high school.
The sheer number of government agencies that promote, fund and enforce the drug war is mind-boggling. Each of these agencies and their employees are jointly responsible for the murder, mayhem, chaos and massive violation of liberty that is the drug war. We need to hold them personally and morally accountable for the disastrous policy they support each day.

These are the agencies and individuals who perpetrate and perpetuate the evil and destructive drug war. They need to be called out, confronted and held accountable. And don’t let them give the old Nazi excuse: “We were just following orders.”
Now let me say a word about the enablers who allow our national addiction to the drug war to continue, the public itself. We bear our own share of the blame but also hold in our hands the power, granted to us by the Constitution, to stop the drug war dead in its tracks! No one can be indicted for a drug offense without a grand jury made up of members of the public voting for it. And no one who has asked for a jury trial can be convicted of a drug offense unless all the jurors vote to convict. No one, not the judge, not the prosecutor, not the court deputy, and not your fellow jurors can tell you how to vote in the jury room. The founding fathers designed it that way. They made you constitutional officers so that you could check the power of judges, prosecutors and politicians whenever they got out of control. The founders divided power in this way because they didn’t trust government to do the right thing. If we are ever going to take this country back from the our out-of-control progressive big government that is destroying this country, juries are going to have to start to act like real Americans and stop acting like sheep.
We can do this! Alcohol prohibition ended very quickly when people suddenly realized the chaos it was causing throughout the country.
100 years of failure are enough.
Let’s stop the madness!
Let’s end the war on drugs in 2015!
Now, today is a good start but we in Buffalo can’t do this all by ourselves. I am asking good Americans in the Liberty Movement to hold similar rallies in their hometowns across the country in the coming weeks on Fridays at noon in the belly of the beast and confront the drug warriors in their own locales and to keep holding these events until the drug warriors come to their senses and recover their human decency.
It can be done and it will be done. The drug war is already dead morally and intellectually. All it needs now is a big kick in the rear to be gone forever and this year!
Always remember the words of that great marijuana farmer George Washington. “Perseverance and spirit have down wonders in all ages.”
